From environmental health chief to passionate photographer

FORMER environmental health chief Andy Gilbert has found a new passion in his life with photographer and is now busy caputuring stunning images around the area.
Andy, (pictured right) who lives in Appleton and retired from his job at Warrington Borough Council in 200 said: “What makes a photographer? I was not born a photographer and up until a few years ago I didn’t really consider myself a real photographer.
Oh yes, I enjoyed taking holiday snaps but now I have a consuming passion that guides me on a daily basis to see our world in a very different light and to record it through the lens-be it with my expensive Nikon digital camera or my mobile phone camera. I realise know that good photography is the difference between looking and seeing.
“To see is to appreciate that all around us is the beauty of nature whether a colourful landscape in Grappenhall village or the hidden beauty of certain plants and insects often to small to see with the naked eye. And man made structures such as churches , often passed or ignored in the light of day can be transformed at night by artificial lighting. I love being out at dusk or night time in cities especially.
“There are certain rules to getting a good photo, in terms of its balance and composition. However, never being being one to follow rules in general I have developed myself through ‘seeing’ and spotting that unusual angle, some say I have a natural eye for composition.
Also, it is important to appreciate what the difference seasons can bring to photographing the same familiar places. Autumn at Lymm Dam is just stunning.
“A few years ago I joined the Warrington and District Camera Club and what a great way to boost your technical abilities and confidence as a photography – whether a beginner or enthusiast. 12 months ago I had the confidence to hold an exhibition at a local framing and picture gallery in Latchford. It went very well, and I am now selling my pictures on a regular basis.
Although I have, and will continue to travel around the world recording and interpreting what I see, I have taken many many good subjects here in
Warrington.”
He is planning to hold another exhibition soon – September 14 at Walton Hall based on photos taken around Walton.
