MORE than 500 local residents attended the recent fun day at Westy Community Centre, where they had the opportunity to purchase items made by local groups who use the centre.
Nappy cakes and home-made fudge were made by the “Women of Westy” community group along with peg bags and baby clothes made by “Pins and Needles” and a tombola supported by the Friday Silver Service Club.
Local film group Brass Monkeys supported by Sainsbury’s and the BBC gave the visitors the chance to be a weather person for the day, with the Mayor of Warrington Cllr Ted Finnegan joining in with the fun.
Warrington Disability Partnership’s mascot, Ollie, and local children all took to the stage to present the local forecast for Latchford East.
The fire service and local police brought their vehicles where children had the chance to learn about fire safety and the role that they can play in their community.
Cllr Kate Hannon, executive board members for leisure, community and culture said: “The sun shone down on us for this day and it was a fantastic success and had a great turnout. Our neighbourhood teams are committed to support community events such as this and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped to make it a hit and to the Big Local who donated £300 towards the event.”
