Young people's artwork on display for WW1

MEMBERS of the Orford Park youth group have created artwork to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.
The group, which met on a Friday night at Orford Park, were invited to take part in the Orford Festival programme in June and the theme of the day was WW1.
Youth workers from Warrington Borough Council supported the young people to create graffiti art that represented their thoughts and understanding of the war. The main messages the group wanted to include was “don’t forget” the sacrifice previous generations have made and the symbol of the poppy because that is what they think of when discussing fallen and injured soldiers.
The work is now on display in Orford Youth Base.
Youth workers are now working on another graffiti project at the youth base with another group, looking at health and wellbeing.
Cllr Jean Carter, executive board member for children and young people’s services, said: “These youth groups are a great way of getting young people involved in community activities and it’s lovely for them to be able to see their work on display.”
