A BRAND new community suite is to be opened at Warrington’s Ryfields Retirement Village thanks to funding from the borough council’s community asset fund.
The suite will be officially opened by The Mayor, Cllr Ted Finnegan, on Wednesday August 27 at 2.30pm.
The funding was used to create a separate area that could be used for smaller social functions, gatherings and meetings while retaining access to the restaurant and all its catering facilities.
Any revenue received will then be used to benefit the village residents and the local community.
Ryfields Residents Association will oversee the project and have been given specific job roles such as marketing, bookings and housekeeping.
The retirement village is currently home to apartments and bungalows and has a range of facilities such as the restaurant, gymnasium and a hairdressing salon.
Mervyn Woodage, the association secretary said, “Here at Ryfield’s we have a range of facilities including an IT centre, a woodwork shop and a greenhouse, so a community suite will be a great addition and we can’t wait to officially open it. With funding from the council and all our hard work, we have finally reached our goal. What started off as a dream is now a reality.”
Borough council lead member for leisure, community and culture, Cllr Kate Hannon (pictured), said “Our Community Asset Fund is a great opportunity for groups to benefit from. Ryfields Village is an example of how the funding can be used for improvements in a local community. Well done to all those involved in the project.”
