UP to £1,000 of funding is on offer for charities and community groups looking to improve digital skills in Warrington.
Local groups from across the borough are being encouraged to apply for funding to support projects that will help inspire and enable people across the region to get online.
Applications can be made for a range of techy training covering anything from how to send emails through to applying for jobs online. Priority will be given to projects focused on helping people who find it hard to keep up with new technologies.
The fund from energy giant E.ON’s Digital Action Fund through Go ON UK, the country’s first digital skills alliance, which recently launched a series of activities in the North West. Along with a number of other partners, Go ON UK is aiming to cut the number of people in the North West who don’t have basic online skills by 250,000 (25%).
Simon Gilby, digital excellence manager, at E.ON, said: “We’ve launched this fund because we want to help projects in Warrington that will enable and inspire people to develop their online skills and get plugged in to all the online world has to offer.
“We get around two million visitors to our website every month, which demonstrates the demand for online services these days. The internet has become an excellent way for us to help our customers use no more energy than they need and pay no more than they need to.
“Yet 1 in 5 people still don’t have basic online skills. This fund offers a great opportunity for local organisations to help address that issue head-on with funding that can offer direct help. We’d urge as many organisations to apply as possible”.
The fund is open for applications from now until Friday 5th September. Interested parties should visit eonenergy.com/digitalchampions to apply and for Terms and Conditions.
Alternatively paper applications forms and terms and conditions can be provided by writing to E.ON Digital Action Fund Team, Tangerine Public Relations, Giants Basin, Potato Wharf, Manchester, M3 4NB
