THE University of Chester – which has a campus at Warrington – has maintained last year’s strong position in the National Student Survey (NSS), with student satisfaction remaining at an all-time high.
and Chester Students’ Union (CSU) holding its place at the top of the region for the second year running.
According to this year’s NSS the institution has sustained its overall satisfaction rate of 88 per cent, holding on to second place within the region, and positioning it 2 per cent above the national average.
The university has earned joint first place in the North West for teaching (89 per cent), and academic support (85 per cent) and with a score of 75 per cent CSU is not only the leader in its field in the region, but also 7 per cent above the sector average.
All final year students from every UK higher education institution are invited to participate in the NSS, which is independently administered by market research experts Ipsos MORI.
At the University of Chester, 73 per cent of eligible students completed the evaluation – the institution’s highest response rate to date and 5per cent above national benchmark.
The NSS covers eight general feedback areas: teaching on my course; assessment and feedback; academic support; organisation and management; learning resources; personal development; overall satisfaction; and Students’ Union.
In addition to the 23 compulsory sections which form part of the published NSS results, universities have the option to select two additional questions from a set list of topics. These results provide data to help enhance the student experience but do not form part of the published survey.
Of these optional questions, 91 per cent of University of Chester students agreed with the statement: “My course provided me with skills I can use in employment” (a 2 per cent increase on last year and 11 per cent above the sector). Also, 91 per cent agreed with the statement: “I have enjoyed my time at University” (the same as last year and 14 per cent above the sector average).
Dr Chris Haslam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor – Corporate Development and the Student Experience, said: “The NSS is one of the most important sets of results for the University as the Survey is all about the students, their experience and what they think about the institution.
“Once again, we have achieved a really outstanding set of scores across the whole institution, with some fantastic improvements in key areas. It is extremely encouraging for everyone at the University that we continue to have very high levels of student satisfaction, significantly above the national average.”
