SAMARITANS volunteers have been raising awareness of their service across the town, including at Warrington Central Station.
The charity’s annual awareness month, entitled “Talk to us” ran throughout July, and volunteers took to 34 railway stations across the north raising awareness with commuters about the important of talking, and Samaritans’ round the clock service for anyone struggling to cope.
Bob Howe, Regional Marketing Officer for Samaritans in Yorkshire & Humberside region said: “Raising awareness of our service during the morning rush hour, to so many rail commuters is really important. We want people to recognise the value of talking, rather than bottling things up. People can get in touch with Samaritans’ service by phone, email and text, as well as visiting a branch to speak to a volunteer face to face. We are here round the clock, every single day of the year.”
Samaritans volunteers were also in Westbrook Asda, Warrington for the full 24 hours reminding people of the 24 hour service offered by Samaritans. Across the 3 venues, £281.60 was raised for the branch.
Emma Cooke, Branch Publicity Officer for Warrington, Halton & St Helens Samaritans said: “This wouldn’t have been possible without the time and dedication of the 15 volunteers who gave their time to be at all 3 events. We also want to say a massive thank you to the staff at the train stations who were brilliantly welcoming, and to Cathy the Westbrook Asda Community Colleague.”
Samaritans answers more than five million calls a year from people of all ages, backgrounds and circumstances. The charity’s 21,200 volunteers deliver the service at 201 branches across the UK and Ireland.
