ROSE Warburton, Warrington’s member of the UK Youth Parliament, represented the borough at the Youth Parliament Annual Sitting.
The 15-year-old Beamont Collegiate Academy student attended the three day event at Lancaster University along with more than 250 others members of youth parliament (MYP’s) and had her say on ways to improve the lives of young people across the country.
In the “Big Vote” MYPs debated which 26 issues should continue onto the British Youth Council manifesto and be considered for debating in the House of Commons in November.
The annual sitting included speeches from many prestigious figures such as John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons; Dr Maggie Atkinson, Children’s Commissioner for England, talented motivational speakers: Kamal Hyman, Mr. Aim a Little Higher, and Caroline Criado-Perez, freelance journalist and feminist campaigner.
Rose said: “It is an experience I will never forget. I have met new friends from all over the country. Thanks to the motivational speeches of John Bercow MP, Kamal Hyman and so many incredible others, I’m feeling inspired, determined and excited to continue my work in Warrington and try to help as many young people as possible.”
Cllr Jean Carter, Warrington Borough Council’s lead member for children and young people’s services, said: “It’s great to see Rose getting stuck into her new role and she is doing us proud representing Warrington on the national stage.”
