Power station blaze

EMERGENCY services were called to the giant Fiddler’s Ferry Power Station, near Warrington when a drum containing an unknown substance caught fire.

Two fire engines from Widnes, the Hazardous Materials unit from Warrington Fire Station and an aerial appliance from Stockton Heath were called to the incident.

Crews discovered the drum contained sulphur powder and used a hose reel and breathing apparatus to fight the blaze.
