ON a weekend when rain again decimated the local cricket programme, Grappenhall went down in the crucial game at Vivio Cheshire County League leaders Hyde.
Grappers still lie fourth in the premier division but it’s now a tall order for them to stay in touch with the top teams.
In a game drastically shortened by the weather, Grappenhall batted first and posted a modest total of 140. James McCoy, 34, Josh McClelland, 35 and promising youngster Ben Bhoda, 22 were the main contributors. Grappenhall were one short with influential wicket-keeper batsman Liam Parkinson missing due to a transport problem.
Hyde coasted to 144-3 – with Jack Critchley taking all three for 18 runs.
The 2nd XI meeting at Broad Lane ended in a tame draw after Hyde posted 189 and interruptions by the weather left Grappenhall only 22 overs to reply. It was an impossible ask and they ended up 77-7.
Grappe nhall 3rd coasted to an eight wicket win against Nantwich at Broad Lane, the visitors batting first and reaching 182-7. Grappers replied with 183-2, Jamie Bye 72 not out and Rob Slater 58.
Warrington stormed to a nine wicket victory at Bredbury St Marks, paceman Kyle Adams taking 7-25 as the home side crashed out for 62. Warrington cruised to 65-1, Richard Heaney scoring 33 not out.
The 2nd XI game at Walton Lea also went Warrington’s way, the visitors batting first and reaching 165-8, Simon Hewitt bagging 6-51. Warrington replied with 166-2, opener Tusher Mahambrey hitting an unbeaten 75 and Simon Swain 45 not out.
The local Cheshire Alliance programme was wiped out with the exception of Appleton’s home game when ended in a draw – largely thanks to the game being shortened by the weather.
Saughall batted first and were bowled out for 113 and Appleton had reached 88-7 when the game ended.
On Sunday, Glazebury enjoyed a six wicket victory over Westminister Park in the Cheshire Alliance 40-over knockout competition at Audlem.
Park were bowled out for 121, Tom Wilkinson taking 5-26.
Glazebury coasted to 122-4, Dean Lord hitting 57 and Chris Lord 27 not out.
