WARRINGTON Town showed no mercy as they defeated Crewe United from
Lisburn, Northern Ireland 10-0 in the annual Peace Cup at Cantilever
Park.
With the forthcoming season just two weeks away and a difficult trip to Darlington on the horizon, manager Shaun Reid fielded a strong side against the Northern Ireland outfit following draws in the last two encounters.
It took nine minutes for Warrington to open their account through Chris Gahgan, but after that it was pretty much one way traffic, with Warrington five up by the break and hitting another five in the second half including two each from substitutes Chris Simm and Ash Ruane and one from Will Jones.
Others on the score sheet in the first half were Anthony Hickey, Ben Wharton and two from Scott Metcalfe including a penalty.
Although the encounter was a little one-sided the weekend celebrated all the good work achieved between Warrington and Lisburn, since Crewe became the first organisation to visit Warrington following the IRA bombing in 1993 which claimed the lives of twelve-year-old Tim Parry and three-year-old Johnathan Ball.
Tim’s father Colin was on hand to present the trophy at the end of the game.
