WARRINGTON’S Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School was the only one out of more than 100 schools across the North West to have three pupils in the finals of a prestigious science award competition.
Year 9 pupils Abigail Titchard, Natalie Clare and Charlotte Davies all reached the finals of the Daresbury Laboratory School Science Prize.
They each had to do a two minute presentation to a panel of five judges on “Why I Love Science” – up against schools such as Sale Grammar, Withington Girls, Helsby High and Wade Deacon High.
It was the 18th year of the Daresbury School Science Prize and there were more than 100 entries
Abigail Titchard was the first person to do her presentation and she was very confident as she was grilled by the judges on why she wants to be a doctor when she grows up.
Natalie Clare was next up from Boteler and she gave a very enthusiastic presentation based on her personal experience of the medical profession and science.
Finally, Charlotte Davies delivered a confident presentation and was quizzed on “Which challenge should we be addressing in science?”
While the judges deliberated, Boteler puils and staff were treated to a talk from Sasha Geim in Year 9 whose father, Andre Geim, has won a Nobel Prize for Physics for the discovery of Graphene.
The results were finally announced and Charlotte and Abigail each received a certificate and a book for their efforts. Natalie was named winner of the Daresbury School Science Prize 2014 and received an iPad mini.
