A WARRINGTON primary school has made it into the final 10 in a national schools’ garden competition.
Cherry Tree Primary, Lymm was chosen from 100 schools across the UK who took part in Stewart Garden Schools Campaign with Pippa Greenwood.
The aim of the competition, first launched in 2012, is to encourage pupils to get involved in “grow your own”.
The campaign challenged participating schools to show their creativity and inspiration with their Stewart Garden kits.
Entries included DVDs of children using the kits, photographs,
drawings, videos, scrapbooks and slideshows.
The winning school will receive £1,100 to be spent at a local garden centre.
Nine runners up will each receive £500, with £100 of each prize being donated by J Arthur Bowers.
Stewart Garden is the gardening division of UK manufacturer, Stewart Group Holdings.
TV and radio gardening expert Pippa Greenwood, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed looking through all the entries. It’s great to see children growing plants, especially fruit and vegetables, and learning so much. I congratulate everyone who got involved.”
Each school received a garden kit worth over £400. Inside the kits were three varieties of easy-grow vegetable seeds from Pippa Greenwood’s own range. Compost was donated by participating garden centres and professional grower’s specialist, J Arthur Bowers. Pupils
received a booklet produced by Stewart Garden. Also supporting the Stewart Garden Schools Campaign is the global electronics company, Brother, who supplied its sophisticated GL200 garden label printer.
The top 10 schools have received a visit from the judges. Once their feedback is collated and analysed, the campaign winner will be announced in September.
