CAPITAL funding for schools in Warrington has fallen by £29 million, under the Coalition Government, according to MP Helen Jones (pictured).
In the last full year of the Labour Government, the money allocation for improving school buildings was £19.4 million, the Warrington North MP said.
This year it is only £8.6 million.
She said: “These figures show a drastic fall in schools funding under the Tory/LibDem Government.
“In addition to the normal capital funding we also received money
from the Building Schools for the Future programme, reaching £18.2 million in 2009-10.
“Total funding of £37.6 million was coming into Warrington in the last
year of Labour government. Now it has fallen drastically leaving many of our children in old and unsuitable buildings.
“The government tells us it believes in the importance of education but it is failing to invest in the future of Warrington’s children.
“It is time for the Tories to come clean and stop pretending they are giving extra money to Warrington when they have slashed the capital budget.”
