Warrington success at Tatton Flower Show

A WARRINGTON-style garden won a Silver Award in the Show Garden category at this year’s Tatton Flower Show.
My Garden was designed to represent many of the gardens typically found across the town, and was entered by LiveWire, in partnership with Golden Gates Housing Trust, Cheshire Probation Trust and The Walton Lea Partnership.
The plot is designed to provide a useful and aesthetically pleasing area that is both low cost and sustainable. The materials used are mostly recycled, helping to keep costs down and protect the environment.
The garden designer and LiveWire Community Park Keeper, Alan Nugent said: “The garden was originally designed to inspire Golden Gates Housing tenants to take ideas and develop their own gardens. We want to show everyone that gardening doesn’t have to be expensive and can be fun.”
The idea behind the design is to introduce more people to horticulture by developing a garden on a limited budget, creating a place to relax, grow crops and spend time as a family. Inclusion of edible crops in the gardens boarders is designed to help people on a low income to develop healthy eating habits and assists with the cost of buying fresh fruit and vegetables. Meaning the borders of the garden not only look great, but also contain edible crops and fruit trees as well as flowers.
Once the show has finished the garden will be brought back to LiveWire’s Orford Jubilee Park for Warrington residents to take inspiration from and enjoy.
Jan Souness, LiveWire’s Managing Director said, “We were thrilled when we heard that the garden had won a silver award and want to thank Alan and all the people and organisations involved in making this show garden possible.”
Peter Mercer, Chief Executive of Golden Gates Housing Trust said: “I am very proud of GGHT, LiveWire, Cheshire Probation Trust and The Walton Lea Partnership to have won the Silver Award. It’s great example to show residents about what can be achieved. Well done to all involved.”
