Junction improvement works set to start!

MOTORISTS are being warned that road improvement works are due to start this Monday (July 28) at the A57 Sankey Way/A574 Cromwell Avenue and A57 Sankey Green Roundabout junctions.
The improvement works are funded by the Local Sustainable Transport Fund and are due to take weeks to complete.
The A57 Sankey Way / A574 Cromwell Avenue scheme involves:
•Widening on Cromwell Avenue at the junction to improve pedestrian/cycle facilities;
•Removal of the bus lane on Cromwell Avenue to improve flow for all traffic including buses;
•Creation of a 4m shared use path on Cromwell Avenue for the benefit of pedestrians and cyclists;
•Renewal of the traffic signal equipment and underground ducting;
•Widening of Peace Drive to provide a separate right and left turn lanes;
•Resurfacing of the junction.

The A57 Sankey Green Roundabout scheme involves:
•Creation of a 4 lanes on the A57 Liverpool Road approach to the roundabout;
•Renewal of the traffic signal equipment and underground ducting;
•Resurfacing of A57 Liverpool Road and Thewlis Street

The works on A574 Cromwell Avenue will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 7am to minimise disruption to traffic. Temporary road closures will be in operation during these hours and a diversion route will be signed.
The works on A57 Sankey Way will be limited to 9:30am to 3:30pm apart from the carriageway resurfacing which will be carried out in the evening/overnight in conjunction with the Cromwell Avenue works. Temporary road closures will be required for the resurfacing works and a diversion route will be signed.
The resurfacing works on Thewlis Street will be carried out on Sundays to minimise disruption to bus users. During these closures special buses will be in operation to continue to serve the stops along Old Liverpool Road. Further information on how these buses will operate will be given at the bus interchange.
The council apologises for any inconvenience caused during the improvement works. Information updates will be circulated to local residents and businesses throughout the duration of the works.
