WARRINGTON council is asking residents for their thoughts on the future of waste and recycling in the town which could decide the fate of the Sandy Lane tip at Stockton Heath.
In 2013/14 Warrington recycled and composted 50% of its waste which was a massive achievement and the council wants to do even better in the future – but made the controversial decision to close Sandy Lane without proper public consultation.
The consultation document will be available from Monday 28th July from the council’s web site for 4 weeks at www.warrington.gov.uk/hwrconsultation. Paper copies are available on request and will also be in council buildings, neighbourhood hubs and libraries.
This document will cover all aspects of the services provided to residents including the future provision of Community Recycling Centres at Gatewarth, Woolston and Stockton Heath. It also covers additional recycling facilities for local communities and asks residents to help identify new locations and what recycling facilities they would like on these sites.
Cllr David Keane, executive board member for environment and public protection, said: “Our aim is to continue our excellent record of recycling and reach 70% by 2030, in line with new planned European targets. To achieve this, the service we provide to residents will need to evolve. We need your support and ideas to help us shape the future of waste and recycling services in Warrington.
“We would also like to understand better how you use the existing services, what you would like to see in the future to help us achieve our long term targets as well as your views on the proposed changes to the Community Recycling Centres.”
