THE Olympic Legacy lived on in Warrington, when children from 80 schools across Cheshire got active during the annual inter-school competition.
Sport Cheshire worked in partnership with school games organisers, teachers and volunteers, to hold the event at the Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub, Beamont Collegiate Academy and Birchwood Tennis Centre.
More than 970 participants from 80 primary and secondary schools took part in 10 events throughout the day including basketball, rounders, athletics, tri golf, orienteering and goalball.
The games promote the involvement of young people and 75 per cent of the volunteers on the day were of school age.
The event was a celebration of the intra and inter school competitions that have taken place throughout the year.
The High Sheriff of Cheshire, Susan Sellers, was just one of the VIP visitors on the day.
Former Commonwealth gold medal winning gymnast Craig Heap also made a special appearance as a “sporting champion”, inspiring the children involved to achieve the best that they can.
He said: “It’s been awesome to see hundreds of young people from across the region having fun whilst taking part in competitive sport.”
Adam Norris, strategic lead for education, at Sport Cheshire, added: “This was our fifth Level Three school games led by Sport Cheshire and we are delighted with its success. We would like to thank our partners and look forward to working with them on future events.”
