Special education – what do young people think?

WARRINGTON Borough Council has teamed up with Warrington Wolves Foundation to seek the views of young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Two consultation events are being held on Monday (July 21) at the Halliwell Jones Stadium for children, young people, and families to have their say.
A session from 4.30 -5.30pm will be for children aged 5-11 and their parents or carers and a session from 5.45 -6.45pm will be for young people aged 12+ and their parents or carers.
Cllr Jean Carter (pictured), the borough council’s lead member for children and young people’s services, said: “The event will be a fun and engaging opportunity for children and young people and their families to give their views about the services they want and need.
“From September 1 the council will be publishing Warrington’s Local Offer of services for children and young people with additional needs, and this event gives families a real platform to ensure that their wishes are a major part of this. The event will also provide parents and young people with more information about the Local Offer and how it will affect them.”
The sessions will outline what the Local Offer is and how to get involved, there will be an interactive website consultation session, children and young people will be supported to give their views using a funky iMac suite, and sports activities such as seated volley ball, and coffee and cake.
