Villagers' second chance to influence homes plan

A SECOND public meeting is to take place at Appleton Thorn, near Warrington to enable local residents to get involved in planning a new housing development in the village.
Developers Bloor Homes will hold the meeting – which will include an exhibition – at Appleton Thorn Village Hall on Monday, July 28 from 2pm to 7pm.
Last month, the company held an initial exhibition to seek feedback from local people on their initial ideas for the development on Stretton Road.
The second meeting will provide members of the local community with the opportunity to see how their feedback has been used to shape the development of the scheme.
To further involve residents and stakeholders in the design of the plans, Bloor Homes is looking to establish a design working group, which would be made up of a selection of volunteers interested in working with the company to develop the scheme. This group would, over the coming months, work with the development team to finalise the plans for the site.
Mark Waite, strategic planning director at Bloor Homes, said:
“We want to involve the community in the development of these plans.
“We know that not everyone wants to see new housing in the village, but by working with the community we can develop a scheme that has been shaped by local residents and ensure that the needs and priorities of Appleton Thorn, and the borough, are met in the best possible way.
“I would encourage any interested residents or stakeholders to volunteer to join the design working group that we’re hoping to set up. This will provide a forum for discussion and debate on what the plans for Appleton Thorn will look like as we’re really keen to ensure that the views of the group feed directly into the final proposals for the site.”
There was a mixed response to the initial ideas unveiled in June, with a positive reaction from residents who acknowledged that the development of the site would provide new housing for families and deliver new community facilities, while other residents expressed concerns over the impact of new homes on existing local infrastructure.
Bloor Homes will examine all concerns raised and seek to address them over the coming months through a variety of technical assessments and the design of the plans, prior to the submission of a planning application.
Any residents who cannot attend the exhibition can find out more by calling the community information line on 0844 556 3002 (Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.30pm).
