GRAPPENHALL slipped from second to fourth place in the Vivio Cheshire County League ECB Premier division when they lost to bottom club Oxton at Broad Lane.
It was Oxton’s first win of the season and the fact that a couple of contentious decisions went against the home side did nothing to lessen the disappointment in the Grappers camp.
Oxton elected to bat first and at 88-5 were struggling, despite Grappenhall fielding a depleted bowling attack.
But a partnership of 102 for the sixth wicket changed things dramatically and Oxton eventually reached 223 in the 54th over. Josh McClelland was Grappenhall’s most successful bowling, with 6-98 in 27 overs while Sam Baxter bagged 3-53.
Grappenhall were soon in trouble at 13-3 before a mini recovery took them to 45 before the fourth wicket fell. Ian Barnes bludgeoned a brilliant 86 from 57 balls while Liam Parkinson hit a patient 31 to take the score to 168-6 but the last four wickets fell quickly with McClelland still there on 21 not out. They were all out for 187 in the 47th over, claiming only six points from the game.
The result left Grappers 13 points behind new leaders Toft – who they beat a few weeks back.
