Support hub for forces veterans

A LANDMARK support hub for servicemen and women and veterans has opened in Warrington town centre.
The hub – in The Gateway, Sankey Street – is an 18-month pilot project funded jointly by Warrington Borough Council and St Loye’s Foundation – a charity which supports disabled ex-service people.
The facility will act as a single point of contact where veterans, serving soldiers, and their families can access a wide variety of services that can support them to lead fulfilling and independent lives, with a particular focus on employment and education.
The hub will be occupied by St Loye’s Foundation as well as other service charities and support groups such as The Royal British Legion, and Warrington Veterans and Families Liaison Board.
Cllr Mike Hannon (pictured), deputy leader of the council, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be opening the hub in Warrington and we sincerely hope that our veterans, and service men and women will find it of great use and support to them.
“Not only does the hub provide support but it represents our commitment to acknowledging and supporting all our heroes when they return home.
“Our town has experienced conflict first hand, with the IRA bombing in 1993 which is why this hub means so much to us and we are proud to have this facility in Warrington.”
Former Grenadier Guards sergeant Stephen Harrison, transitions manager for the North West at the St Loye’s Foundation, said: “The launch of the hub is a landmark occasion. There is a great deal of support available to serving and former armed forces personnel and their families but knowing who to go to for what support and where can be challenging.
“The hub aims to ensure that people gain access to the most appropriate support for their needs as quickly and easily as possible. All they need to do to get things started is to drop in to The hub or to contact us by e-mail or phone.”
Mandy Sutton, Royal British Legion area manager said: “We are looking forward to being able to offer all our serving and ex service personnel,
an end to end service involving all those charities and organisations within the hub.
“This will enable us to work together for the good of the armed forces community, to ensure continuity of ongoing service and the avoidance of overlap, within the area.”
The hub is open every weekday excluding bank holidays from 10am to 4pm at the Gateway, Sankey St, Warrington, Cheshire WA1 1SR, telephone
01925-246955 or email [email protected]
