Tony wins adult learners award

WARRINGTON resident Tony Meade has been awarded this year’s Adult Learners award for engaging with Bookstart Corner, a programme aimed at developing a positive approach to reading for both parents and young children.
LiveWire have been running the scheme in conjunction with bookgifting organisation Bookstart and Warrington’s Children Centres for the last two years and worked closely with Tony and his family to help provide fun learning and preparation for nursery for his daughter Kelsey.
Tony was nominated for the award by LiveWire Libraries for his involvement with the reading programme and has since rediscovered his local library in Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub and developed a new found love of reading.
This has had a positive effect on Tony’s family – and he has even completed the Six Book Challenge held for adults every Summer throughout all LiveWire’s Libraries.
Having given up his job to become a full-time single dad to his two daughters, Tony is now working with support group Brighter Futures to identify training opportunities and gaps in his qualifications.
He said: “I have learned how important and how much fun sharing stories with my daughters is. This has made lots of difference in my relationship with my girls as I now make sure I spend one-on-one time sharing books each day”
Miranda Greenwood, LiveWire’s family reading co-ordinator said: “I worked with Tony over a four week period on a home programme and he did so well that I wanted to enter him for the Adult Learners Award run by Life Long Learning. It has really helped him to engage more with Kelsey”
