Fears over future of Lymm High School's Super Head

A question mark is hanging over the future of Lymm High School’s “Super Head” Tarun Kapur after school governors signaled an intention to appoint a permanent head teacher “in due course.”
Concerned parents have expressed fears that if Mr Kapur (pictured right) and the Dean Trust leave the school at the end of their contract this Christmas, that the school will not continue to improve as it has done under their leadership.
One parent, who asked not to be identified, said: “As a parent I care passionately about my children’s education as well as the future of generations of children that will go to Lymm High School.
“Surely we must have the best teachers as well as outstanding leaders in charge of our school. We need leaders with Mr Kapur’s determination and vision. If Mr Kapur goes how many teachers will follow?
“Since his appointment parents, pupils and staff have been delighted with the amazing difference which is now evident throughout the school.
“It is unbelievable to think that the governors would not engage Mr Kapur and the Dean Trust on a permanent basis.”
Chair of Governors Kieran Walshe said: “We confirm there is no change to the arrangement for senior leadership support from the Dean Trust, and Tarun Kapur remains the executive principal of the school.
“Governors will, of course, need to appoint a permanent headteacher in due course, and more information will be made available at that time.
“Both the school and the Dean Trust are committed to ensuring that the progress made this year is sustained and improved next year.”
A spokesperson for the Dean Trust said:”The work that Mr Kapur and the Dean Trust team are doing alongside Lymm High School is set to continue into the next academic year.
“We are aware of some preliminary discussions by governors into the future leadership of the school and that appears to be sensible to do so.
“This however is not our business and will be left to the Lymm governors as the responsible body.”
Local councillor Ian Marks said: “As a local councillor my prime concern is for the wellbeing of the young people at the school.
“Tarun Kapur has done a first class job in turning the School round and we are all extremely grateful for this.
“I just hope that if he leaves it does not create any instability because what is needed is a steady continuation of the return to ‘excellence’.”
Mr Kapur was drafted in last year following the suspension of former Head Teacher Angela Walsh, who resigned earlier this year.
During her period in charge the school faced a catalogue of issues including financial irregularities, the loss of 45 staff and the loss of an Outstanding Ofsted, to the brink of being placed in special measures.
Mr Kapur has a keen interest in sport and the performing arts and he sees this as an integral part of the culture of an outstanding school as it helps to develop leadership and often changes lives.
All of his schools are Specialist Sports Colleges like Lymm; however, his specialism is in raising and maintaining standards within a caring environment.
He also sits on some high profile Boards including the Manchester United Foundation and the Football Foundation and has been recognised for his achievements through the Teaching Awards and the Honours system.
