Sixth form closure goes under scrutiny

WARRINGTON Borough Council’s decision to proceed with the closure of the sixth form at Culcheth High School will go before scrutiny bosses on Wednesday, July 9.
The decision has been “called in” by Culcheth and Glazebury councillor Chris Vobe following the council’s decision to support the school’s governors’ decision to close the facility.
It will be considered by the scrutiny committee who may, if they wish, refer the matter back to the council’s executive board for further consideration.
Cllr Vobe – backed by 12 other councillors – claims the decision was made with giving due consideration to professional advice, that the decision lacks clarity of aims and desired outcomes and that alternative options and their likely effects on the social, ec9onomic and environmental well-being of the borough have not been considered.
The meeting will start at 6.30pm at the Town Hall and is open to the public.
In the meantime, the planned closure of the sixth form has been postponed.
The scrutiny committee cannot stop the closure going ahead – they can only ask the executive board to reconsider the issue.
