WARRINGTON Wolves made it eight wins on the bounce as they piled on the pressure on relegation haunted Bradford Bulls with a 50-24 victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
With Gareth O’Brien (pictured top) in for the missing Chris Bridge, the young half-back made an early impression as he was held up just short of the line, with Ben Harrison then using his strength to force his way over int he 4th minute. Stefan Ratchford, deputising with the kicking duties in the absence of Bridge, was wide with the conversion.
A greast break by Micky Higham then helped det up a try for Ryan Atkins, who found a gap to race under the sticks for his 100th try in primrose and blue. Ratchford made no mistake with the simple conversion to make it 10-0 after just seven minutes.
It was pretty much one way traffic as O’Brien who was next to go over, twisting out the tackle with Ratchford again on target to make it 16-0 in just 13 minutes.
But that was the final score of the half for the Wolves, with the Bulls pulling one back just before the break through Kearney, with Gale landing the extras to make it 16-6 at the interval.
Within a minute of the re-start Warrington were back in control when Joel Monaghan out jumped the defence to collect a Ratchford kick to score under the sticks. Ratchford then converted to make it 22-6.
Three minutes later Ben Westwood reached out to score with Ratchford gain on target and in a frantic spell as the Wolves went over again twice in quick succession, first through Monaghan, after good hands from Ratchford and O’Brien. Ratchford’s conversion made it 34-6 and within two minutes the Wolves were over again as Gene Ormsby went over in the corner. Ratchford’s touchline conversion drifted wide but at 38-6 it was game over on 49 minutes.
The Bulls re-grouped after the whirlwind spell and were eventually rewarded when Purtell went over on 56 minutes and Gale added the extras.
But the Wolves hit back on 64 minutes as O’Brien darted over for the second of the afternoon and Ratchford converted to make it 44-12.
On 70 minutes the Wolves hit 50 as Rhys Evans went over in the corner and Ratchford landed the two to make it 50-12.
Two late tries for the Bulls from Olbison and Pitt, both converted by Gale took a little bit of gloss off a fine victory for the Wolves.
