Life-saver installed at church

A LIFE-saving defibrillator has been installed at St Mary Magdalene Church, Appleton as a result of an initiative by cardiac charity SADS UK.
The public access defibrillator can, in an emergency, be used by anyone responding to someone who has suffered a cardiac arrest.
Donations made by Grappenhall Ex-serviceman’s Bowling Club, funds raised from a “wax night” at the London Bridge pub in Appleton and match-funding from Barclay’s Bank enabled the equipment to be installed.
The cabinet that houses the defibrillator provides instructions to call 999 for the ambulance service and ask for the key code.
The location of the defibrillator is given on the front of the cabinet. A code will be given by the ambulance call-handler so that the rescuer may access the defibrillator. An ambulance will be despatched immediately.
In the meantime the rescuer can follow the voice prompts given by the defibrillator machine.
Angela Morris, SADS UK North West representative said: “We are pleased St Mary Magdalene Church benefits from having a defibrillator to restart the heart if there is a cardiac arrest in the locality.
“Using CPR alone provides a five per cent chance of survival but using the defibrillator as well increases the chance of survival to over 50 per cent.”
SADS UK works with schools and the community to put defibrillators in place. Anyone who would like further information should contact Angela Morris on 01925 822332 or email, [email protected]
