Women’s choir celebrates 21 years

WARRINGTON-based Cheshire Chord Company – a women’s four part a cappella harmony barbershop chorus – celebrated their 21st birthday in style with a summer ball at Cuddington.
As well as dancing the night away – and singing, of course – they also celebrated the success of their quartet Close Encounter, who earlier the same day qualified for the semi finals of the national quartet competition to be held in Harrogate in October.
Earlier this year, the group ran a “learn to sing” source which brought in more than 20 new members, increasing membership to 65.
Currently they are concentrating on preparations for the Llangollen Eisteddfod on July 12 where they will be performing on an international stage once again, having performed in Dortmund, Germany at the beginning of March, where they represented their association at the “Barbershop in Germany” Convention.
The choir has also been invited to appear at the Chief Constable’s concert at Greater Manchester Police headquarters on Friday, July 4.
They will also be performing with the Warrington Male Voice Choir at Parr Hall in Warrington on Saturday September 20.
Spokeswoman Debby Hirst said: “The work now continues in preparation for the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers national competition at the end of October in Harrogate where we will be competing against over 30 ladies’ choruses and we aim to impress both judges and audience with our fabulous new song package, new choreography and costumes. Our rehearsal schedule is hard work but always good fun.”
Formed in 1993, Cheshire Chord Company have been National Champions of the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers on six occasions.
