THE three Borough Councillors for Lymm have joined together to call for the Thursday Lymm Market to be expanded.
At a meeting of Lymm traders organised by Lymm Parish Council at the end of March, there was a widespread consensus that Lymm Market should be expanded or closed down. At present it was merely ‘ticking over’ with only six to ten stalls which was not neither one thing nor the other.
Councillors Bob Barr, Ian Marks and Sheila Woodyatt met with Warrington Market Manager Steve Pickering to agree the way forward.
They agreed it should continue to be held on a Thursday on the Henry Street car park. Moving it to the Youth Centre or closing off the village centre on a regular basis were both impractical. Changing the day to a weekend was also not possible because the existing stall holders were booked into markets elsewhere.
There was scope for alternative Farmers’ Markets and Artisan Markets because they added to the vitality of the village which contributed to an increase in footfall which benefited everyone.
The three councillors asked Mr Pickering to take steps to promote the market in Lymm by encouraging more stall holders to come here. Gaps in the products and produce offered should be identified. Current stall holders should then be approached to ask stall holders they meet at other markets to come to Lymm.
The topic will be on the agenda for the next Lymm Traders Meeting.
