Winning streak comes to an end

GRAPPENHALL’S run of three consecutive wins in the Vivio Cheshire County League ended abruptly at Broad Lane with a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of lowly Nantwich.
Winning the toss and electing to bat on an inviting track, Grappenhall took advantage of the conditions to build a solid foundation, with Adam Roylance, 45, James McCoy, 23 and Liam Parkington, 26 all looking good.
But the middle order failed to capitalise on the promising start and a flurry of wickets left the home side teetering on 135-8.
Gaz Burns, 23 and Sam Baxter, 20 provided some rearguard action adding 40 for the ninth wicket and Grappers finished with a more respectable total of 180 all out.
When the visitors batted, Sam Guest made an early breakthrough but then Nantwich took control, adding 113 for the second wicket and setting themselves up for a victory charge. Burns and Baxter took a wicket apiece, but were unable to make further inroads and the visitors reached victory with seven wickets to spare.
Grappenhall 2nd had to settle for a draw after hitting 251 at Nantwich.

Nantwich looked on course for victory but then Stanley Pennington took two wickets in one over to break a promising partnership and the match ended in a draw with Nantwich on 234-8.
Grappenhall 3rd went down by three wickets against Cheadle after being bowled out for 127.
Warrington picked up a useful four wicket win at Congleton after restricting the home side to 178-9. Paceman Kyle Adams took 6-61.
Opener Chris Kirby hit 62 as Warrington replied with 182-6 and there were good knocks from James Rudd, 42 and Adams who followed up his exploits with the ball to hit an unbeaten 35.
In the TACS Partnership Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park went down heavily at Barrow, being bowled out for 95 after the home side had hit 184.
Lymm 2nd managed a six wicket win against Oakmere at Oughtrington Lane and bowling the visitors out for 90.
In the Cheshire Alliance, the “derby” game between Appleton and Glazebury went the home side’s way after Glazebury batted first and were bowled out for 87.
Chris Lord top scored with 34 and Dave Acton hit 25. Appleton replied with 91-4, opener Antony Hurst hitting 34 not out.
Appleton 2nd went down at Mossley, batting first and reaching 154-9. J Nesbitt hit 30 and Peter Ryan 29.
Michael Cumberland took 2-52, but Mossley coasted to victory on 157-3.
Appleton 3rd were dismissed for 115 by Audlem who went on to win with 117-6 and Appleton 4th were defeated by eight wickets at Tranmere Victoria despite a good all-round performance by Dan Hyatt who top scored with 25 and took two wickets for 16 runs.
Glazebury 2nd were dismissed for 102 when they took on Rostherne at Hurst Lane. The experienced Ian McCue hit 26.
Rostherne reached their target for the loss of three wickets, two of which went to Chris Ayre at a cost of 16 runs.
Stretton, pushing hard for the division one title, scraped a one wicket victory at Stalybridge St Pauls after dismissing the home side for 126, J Mir 3-40. Stretton were reduced to 108-9, A Sshraf 37, A Malik 24, but the last pair managed to take them to a winning 127-9.
