PUPILS at Warrington’s Alderman Bolton Primary School learned about “flour power” when representatives of a regional bakery dropped in to show them how to make a loaf of bread.
Children in Years 5 and 6 were guided through every stage of the bread making process by bread making veterans Keith Birkett and Paul Graves from Roberts Bakery.
Year 6 teacher Liz Towler said: “The children were very excited about their masterclass.
“They loved rolling their sleeves up and mixing and kneading the dough before baking. They were thrilled to produce loaves that looked and smelled so delicious. This visit really contributed to their learning and the children now know how bread is manufactured on a large scale and how it reaches our shelves.”
The visit formed part of the pupils’ technology curriculum where they have been learning about how food is manufactured and the importance of a good diet.
The children also took a virtual tour of Roberts’ state-of-the-art bakery, which makes 87 million loaves a year and supplies bread throughout the region.
