NEW Song Network Church, the newest Methodist church in the country, is formally opening in Warrington on Sunday June 22 in Bold Street Methodist Mission at 7pm.
A café-style alternative worship, New Song Network started five years ago in the coffee shop at Bold Street when 65 people turned up for a room with a capacity for just 40.
It was necessary to move to a larger room and now the New Song Café meets in the church on the fourth Sunday of each month with 170 people regularly attending.
Further areas of worship and opportunities for learning, caring and service have grown from this and form the Network.
New Song Breakfast meets at Latchford Methodist Church on the third Sunday, serving bacon and sausage butties and drinks before a time of worship relevant to everyday life.
Discipleship is a learning session also meeting at Latchford Methodist Church on the second Sunday evening.
Of major importance in the life of New Song Network is the community work and service. For example, on Mothering Sunday, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day hot drinks are served at Walton Lea Crematorium and Fox Covert Cemetery – an example of being alongside people when they need support.
There are social events too and people dip in and out of various areas of the Network as they are comfortable.
The Rev Jackie Bellfield, minister of New Song Network, said: “What has surprised us is the strength of people’s passion for wanting to be engaged with New Song. This has become their church. It is a brand new church and a brand new congregation. It exceeds all we could possible imagine. It is so exciting!”
