It's getting warm – so secure your house

WARM weather is welcomed by most people in Warrington – including the criminal fraternity.
Police are urging residents to keep their homes secure during the warm weather to help prevent sneak-in burglaries.
Homeowners are being warned to stay security conscious and keep their houses secure – even when they are at home.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Mitchell said: “During warm weather, we tend to experience an increase in the number of opportunist ‘sneak in’ burglaries, where criminals take advantage of homeowners who have left windows open, patios unlocked and doors ajar.
“It is vitally important to have an awareness of your home security so criminals don’t exploit the opportunity of an open door or window to enter your home and steal your belongings.
“We remind residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.”
Residents should keep all doors and windows closed and locked, even when they are in.
They should use modern security devices which enable a window to be left open but still locked.
All valuables should be kept out of sight of prying eyes and keys should never be left in view of doors or windows.
Large amounts of cash should not be kept in the house – and if anyone is seen acting suspiciously in he neighbourhood, the police should be called on 101.
