FINE weather welcomed more than 2000 people to this year’s Orford Park Festival last weekend hosted by LiveWire at Orford Jubilee Park.
Local Cllr Mike Hannon and Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Peter Carey officially opened the festival at 1pm and started the Community Walk around the park. The walk led by the Peninsula Baracs Orford in commemoration of WW1 anniversary were joined by local community groups, Marganette Morris Dancers and special guests Iggly Piggle, Peppa Pig and Ben Ten on the one mile walk.
The afternoon saw over 40 craft and gift stalls, fairground, dog show and children’s sporting activities alongside a live music stage hosted by Warrington Youth Service, which saw many local bands take to the stage.
Wire FM provided music for the afternoon alongside DJ John Edgar with Cheshire Police and Network Warrington keeping the children entertain with an open top bus and police vehicles.
Other activities on the day included a chill out tent with bean bags for reading, provided by LiveWire Libraries, tombola ran by Warrington Disability Partnership, baseball cap painting by Sure Start Children Centres, health checks provided by the NHS and LiveWire and live chainsaw carvings by sculpture Gary Lacey.
There were many charities present on the afternoon. LiveWire raised over £500 for Motor Neurone Disease Association through a cake stall Mary Berry would be proud of, whilst traditional Indian cuisine, BBQ and grill, and real ale also provided food for the hungry visitors on the day.
Jan Souness LiveWire’s Managing Director said: “It has been a privilege to be involved in this family fun day bringing Warrington’s Neighbourhoods together. The afternoon wouldn’t of been possible without all the community groups and partners that have helped make today such a success.”
Cllr Hannon said: “This year’s festival has been the best yet, the weather has stayed fine and it has been incredible to see the people of Warrington come out to support their local community, it has been a very special day.”
