Audi announces the new R8

AUDI has announced the arrival of the most powerful road-going R8 yet – the R8 LMX. Eight years down the road and the original 4.2-litre V8 has grown into a 5.2-litre V10! The dash to 62mph has fallen from 4.2 seconds to 3.6.
With 570hp on tap the limited edition LMX promises to cut this further still!
The notable difference externally in appearance, is the fixed rear wing and protruding front lip. The car pictured is the crystal-effect Ara Blue paintwork and was designed specifically for this car. Other touches include the 19in, 20-spoke alloys, red brake callipers and gloss black tailpipes.
On the inside, the bucket seats are finished in Nappa leather with blue stitching and blue backrest covers, while the Alcantara headlining and leather-trimmed steering wheel and handbrake are also accented by blue stitching.
More subtle internal revisions comprise carbon covers on the centre tunnel, door inlays and the arc around the cockpit, while illuminated door sills bear the limited-edition number.
The basic structure of the R8 is unchanged; the suspension geometry is carried over from the standard car and the Audi Space Frame (ASF) aluminium body is identical, while the running gear includes the same Quattro four-wheel drive system and the compact seven-speed automatic gearbox.
The V10 under the bonnet is essentially the same as the standard R8 but the power output has been increased to 570hp and torque has also been boosted to 540Nm. As a result, the LMX is capable of 198mph and 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the standard R8 V10.
The headlights have an intelligence all of their own! The high intensity beams work in tandem with the LED headlights to increase the high beam illumination at speeds in excess of 37mph, but automatically adjust when an oncoming vehicle is detected to avoid dazzle. The safety benefit this extends to the driver is second to none.
As far as high performance cars go Audi have managed to enter a market and really make their mark! Very often leaving rivals behind in performance and specification. Its appearance is striking and any one driving an R8 can be prepared to be noticed!
