Life gets tough for Grappers

GRAPPENHALL began to realise how tough life can be in the premier division of the Vivio Cheshire County League, crashing to their third heavy defeat in a row.
Batting first at Broad Lane, they were bowled out for 136 by Hyde with opener Adam Roylance, 62, making the only significant contribution.
Aussie paceman Josh McClelland took two quick wickets giving Grappers some hope but then the visitors, who look likely title contenders, took a grip on the game and finished it off on 139-2.
Grappenhall 2nd travelled to Hyde and registered their first win under new skipper Matt Titchard.
Hyde batted first and were restricted to 209-8, Stanley Pennington taking 5-43 with what must surely be the first of many five wicket hauls for the youngsters. Grappenhall coasted to 211-6,Ian Barnes hitting 58 and Iain Wright 86 not out.
A 10-man Grappenhall 3rd, missing a number of key players, travelled to Hyde and were bowled out for 133, Paul Tyerman with 32, Rob Slater 27 and Albert Pennington, 23 being the main contributors. But Hyde raced to victory on 135-4, despite Stanley Pennington’s 3-33.
Warrington picked up a nine wicket victory over Bredbury St Marks at Walton Lea after bowling out the visitors for 123. But Warrington 3rd went down by five wickets at Brooklands after being bowled out for 180
Warrington 5th hit 161 at Alvanley, Brian Boys top scoring with 163. But it was not enough as the home side reached 162-6.
In the TACS Partnership Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park won by eight wickets at Kingsley after restricting the home side to 129-9.
Lymm Oughtrington 2nd held on for a draw against Romiley at Oughtrington Lane after the visitors hit 161-8. Lymm’s last pair were at the wicket when time ran out with the score on 77-8.
In the Cheshire Alliance “derby” game between Stretton and Glazebuy, Stretton ran out easy winners.
Batting first, Stretton declared on 211-7, J Mir 39 and A Ashraf 33. Kyle Keeble took 5-49. Glazebury were dismissed for 90, skipper Jack Warhurst top scoring with 27 and opener Dean Lord, 18. being the only other batsman to reach double figures.
Glazebury 2nd could only muster 87 against the Groves, Ian McCue hitting 18 and Gary Ayre 18. The Groves coasted to 88-5, Chris Ayre taking 3-22 and Ian Black 2-2.
Appleton picked up a useful win at Saughall after dismissing the home side for 111, E Rashid taking 3-25 and M Cooper 3-10. Appleton replied with 113-6, Richard Clarke top scoring with 33.
A depleted Rylands were bowled out for 71 at Westminster Park before the home side replied with 74-4 and in the second team game, Westminster Park hit 239 and then dismissed Rylands for 100.
