HOT track conditions made for exciting racing at Oulton Park when The British Automobile Racing club held their National Championship meeting on Saturday with Warrington’s Peter Highton challenging for honours.
Peter from Appleton, driving an MG F 1800 (number 27 white car) took part in the Lancaster Insurance MGOC Class A-F and finished in 3rd place in the qualifying session for the race.
Peter lost a position at the start but worked his way into 1st place with two laps to go. His close rival Simon Kendrick challenged him all the way and at the Island hairpin bend Simon took his chance and slipped past Peter who came in 2nd place 0.524 sec behind the winner.
“It was a great race and Simon took his opportunity and there was not enough time to retake the lead again” said a disappointed Peter.
“We tested the car on Friday and I blew a head gasket and with the help of some of the other competitions we managed to get the car ready for Saturday’s racing,” he added.

Peter Highton, left with winner Simon Kendrick and third placed Paul Wisbey
