Controversial homes plan withdrawn

A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build 11 houses on the site of a medieval barn at Warrington has been withdrawn at the last minute.
Members of the borough council’s development committee were set to consider the plan which has caused an uproar at Culcheth.
But the proposals were withdrawn by developers Evoke Homes.
Nearly 70 residents objected to the proposals for land off Culcheth Hall Drive, Culcheth and the scheme was also opposed by Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council and local councillor Chris Vobe.
The plan adjoined Culcheth Hall Farm and included the site of a building known as the Tithe Barn, which has already been demolished. It involved seven detached, five-bedroom houses and four semi-detached three bedroom houses. A wildlife zone is proposed in the centre of the site.
Nearby residents claimed Culcheth Hall Drive was narrow and already congested and additional traffic would cause road safety hazards. They pointed out that the road was used by 200 school children daily.
Planning officers were recommending the scheme be refused.
