A GROUP of volunteers dedicated to keeping order in Warrington town centre have been honoured at a Cheshire Police awards ceremony.
Special Sergeant Charlie Mills and Special Constables Paul Quayle, Michael Grogan, Sigourney Ridsdale, Scott Smith, Thomas Goulding and Deborah Roberts, collectively received the Special Constabulary “Team of the Year” award at police headquarters.
In the past year, the Warrington Town Centre Special Constabulary Team has supported policing by collectively giving up 3,216 hours of their time.
Through their hard work and dedication to policing, they have become an integral part of the neighbourhood policing team, working day and night shifts in order to develop solid working relationships with regular colleagues, local businesses and partner agencies.
The team is an integral part of policing events such as Warrington Walking Day, Warrington Pride, Warrington Mela, Remembrance Sunday, Christmas celebrations and Warrington Music Festival.
They have responded to numerous requests for support on anticipated high demand occasions sacrificing their own time to participate in policing duties.
Over a 12-month period they have been responsible for 87 arrests, 145 arrest assists, 18 crimes reported, 25 vulnerable person reports submitted, 36 checks on licensed premises, five vehicles seized and 236 Section 27 notice forms “to leave a locality” submitted.
Acting Special Inspector Charlie Mills said: “It was an absolute pleasure to receive The Team of the Year Award for Warrington Town Centre Special Constabulary.
“Each week our team volunteer their spare time to help their local community and feel rewarded and recognised for giving up their free time, usually at unsociable hours, and at the sacrifice of other commitments by receiving this award.
“We’re rewarded by every shift we do, every incident we attend, and every member of our community we help, but equally it’s great to know that our NPU Inspector has recognised us for the work we do.
“This award demonstrates not only the commitment of the team, but also the positive relationship we have with our regular colleagues within the NPU.”
Assistant Chief Constable Janette McCormick said: “The team is devoted to the tasks that they are involved in and their contribution is invaluable. Their commitment to the community is clear for all to see and they are truly deserving of the Special Constabulary Team Award for 2014.”
