Garden extension appeal rejected

AN Appleton man has lost his appeal against the refusal by Warrington Borough Council to grant permission to extend his garden into a “natural landscape” area behind his home.
The council refused permission to the resident of High Warren Close in December but the householder, who wanted to extend his garden into an area of land between his property and Warrington Golf Club’s course, appealed.
Now an inspector, Alison Partington, appointed by the Government has dismissed the appeal.
She says extending the garden would involving moving an existing fence much closer to a footpath which runs through the natural area, giving it an incongruous appearance.
Allowing the appeal would make it more difficult to resist further, similar planning applications which would exacerbate the harm caused to the area and have an adverse visual impact on those using the footpath..
Overall, Ms Partington says the proposed development would be detrimental to the character and appearance of the area.
