Housing Trust find jobs for tenants

FIVE successful recruits have started work on a programme which will give them 12 months of valuable work experience and training with Warrington social housing provider Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT).
All five were previously unemployed and living in one of GGHT’s homes in Warrington.
They bring the total number of trainees taken on by GGHT since the start of the year to 20 and the total since 2012 – when the Trust announced a major commitment to help tackle unemployment – to more than 220.
All were GGHT tenants or family members.
The Trust remains on target to support up to 450 residents into employment by the end of next year.
Trainee roles have included neighbourhood officers and caretakers within GGHT and fire safety advocates and wellbeing mentors with Cheshire Fire Service and Warrington Public Health.
In April alone, GGHT’s employment initiative team were able to support 29 people into work with employers such as Live Wire and Cheshire Fencing – companies who have taken advantage of the GGHT and Warrington Borough Council Wage Incentive programme.
This offers local voluntary sector organisations and small/medium sized employers an incentivised package of between £3,000 and £5,000 to provide apprenticeships and jobs with training.
Trust chairman Roy Smith said: “The GGHT trainee schemes are fantastic ways for people to earn a living while they learn and develop new skills. During their time on the programme they will gain the work experience and qualifications which will be the passport to their future careers.
“Our employment team will support all individuals to progress with their job goals and aspirations.”
Anyone who lives in one of the Trust’s properties and would like additional support getting into employment, training or volunteering should call 0800 252627 and ask for the employment team.
