National honour for local primary school

A WARRINGTON primary school has achieved the prestigious status of National Teaching School.
Evelyn Street Primary School has become the first primary school in
Warrington to achieve this recognition, and is one of only 500 national teaching schools in the country so far.
Warrington Borough Council’s director of families and wellbeing, Eleni Ioannides, said: “National teaching schools have an important role in raising standards. They take a leading role in recruiting and training new entrants to the teaching profession, identifying leadership potential and also providing valuable support for other schools.
“To be accorded this status is a great honour, and on behalf of the
council I’d like to send sincere congratulations to the governors, staff and pupils on becoming Warrington’s first primary school to achieve this accolade.”
Executive headteacher at Evelyn Street, Louise Smith said: “We are very proud to have earned teaching school status. It recognises the school’s
performance and our track record of raising standards through supporting other schools.
“I’d like to thank all of our staff, trainee teachers, pupils and also our colleagues in our partner schools for their hard work in making this possible.”
National teaching schools were first introduced in 2011 and are selected by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL). All teaching schools are rated as “outstanding”.
Staff from Evelyn Street and other successful schools will attend a formal induction led by the Teaching Schools Council, which is made up of teaching school headteachers and represents all teaching schools.
