ACTIVISTS from the HOPE not Hate movement handed out more than 1,000 newspapers in Warrington town centre as part of a camapaign against far-right political parties such as the BNP.
They were joined by local Labour members – including Tom Jennings, the town’s Hope not Hate organiser and candidate for the Grappenhall and Thelwall seat on Warrington Borough Council in this month’s elections.
More than 20 volunteers took part in the campaign, including local musicians Kye Jones and Nathan Erskine, leader of the borough council Terry O’Neill and two Labour MEP candidates, Theresa Griffin and Afzal Khan.
A further 3,000 newspapers are to be delivered in Warrington.
Matt Hanley, The HOPE Not Hate North West Co-ordinator said: “It’s really important that we get out the message of HOPE Not Hate on May 22.
“Since 2009, every one of us in the North West has been represented by BNP leader Nick Griffin.
“We have a golden opportunity to get rid of him on May 22, but he only needs about seven or eight per cent of the overall vote to keep his seat.
“We need to organise and campaign over the next few weeks to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
