WARRINGTON based rockers Slydigs returned to their home town for a warm up gig at the Dog House last night (Saturday) to prepare for their UK tour and the release of their new EP “Down With The Mockery.”
Released on on May 25 the EP has been produced by George Shilling (Primal Scream, Ocean Colour Scene, Slade) featuring the collaborative works of Dean Fairhurst and Louis Menguy.
The release features “Stiff Upper Lip” the first official single of the EP and will be available as a download on May 25. The EP also featured a documentary video directed by John Corrin at Wasp Videos, the same man who is behind the Howard Marks narrated documentary.
The song teeters on the comparisons between the social classes. ‘Stiff upper lip’- being a phrase and attitude that most British people are aware of. A way for the ‘upper classes’ to deal with situations should they arise, one should always use a ‘Stiff Upper Lip’ to overcome such problems. In this case it’s sarcastically portrayed. “count yourself lucky you, wasn’t born in a cotton field’ says it all!
The UK Tour will be followed by a couple of gigs in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) starting June 20th.
Slydigs was formed by four school friends. Dean Fairhurst: Vocals and rhythm guitar Louis Menguy: Lead guitar , Ben Breslin: Bass and Peter Fleming: Drums.
The bands’ influences range from the Rolling Stones to the Clash, to Bertolt Brecht to Hunter S. Thompson. Main songwriter Dean Fairhurst fuses classic rock structures with tailor-made Rock & Roll Poetry intended for Arenas around the world.
