WARRINGTON paralympian Adrian Derbyshire urgently needs financial backing as he continues his anti-hate campaign around the country.
Fresh from meeting Prime Minister David Cameron at Number 10, Adrian now needs additional funds to help him reach out to thousands of school children around the country.
As a Patron for Warrington Wolves Foundation, he has been allowed to use their charity status to raise for my Hate Crime, Disability Awareness, Sport, Health & Wellbeing, Going The Extra Mile Hand Cycle Campaign.
Adrian, whose life changed forever after suffering a brain haemorrhage nearly six years ago, said: “I am travelling to schools, clubs and colleges talking to children and students about the affects Hate Crime has on it’s victims, Disability Awareness and the stigma behind it, promotion of Sport, Health & Wellbeing and Being Active.
“I am travelling over 1000 miles, one marathon a day on my hand Cycle throughout the UK promoting my campaign.
“This is a huge multi partnership project including Gladstone Brookes, Cheshire Police, Sports Cheshire, Stop Hate UK, amongst many more.
“Please give as much as you can – This will allow me to continue this project throughout the year to encourage children to speak up against Stigma & Crime which will encourage them to being positive role models.
Commenting on his visit to 10 Downing Street to meet David Cameron, Adrian added: “It was a great experience – one I will never forget.”
The former international wheelchair athlete has won two gold and three silver medals as well as carrying both the Olympic and Paralympic torches and was invited by local MP David Mowat to a reception celebrating the work of community volunteers.
Adrian added: “It was an honour to meet the Prime Minister and tell him about my campaign. We continue to educate young people about what hate crime is.”
