PLANNERS at Warrington have given the go-ahead for more changes to a former high school as part of its transformation into an £8 million “learning village.”
Old school buildings at the former Woolston High School, in Holes Lane, Woolston will be converted to offices, internal refurbishment will take place, a new platform lift installed and parking areas and footways created
The school has already been officially re-opened as a sixth form college for children with special educational needs. The college is the first phase of what will become the Woolston Learning Village, where Warrington existing SEN schools, Fox Wood and Green Lane, will come together on the same site as a the college.
It is expected the facility will be fully open by September.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee were told there would be no significant harm to the living conditions of nearby properties, the nearest of which were some 61m away.
There would be no loss of playing fields or green space and no harm to existing landscape features.
Proposals for the re-siting of a mobile building to the south-eastern boundary of the site from the western boundary were deferred for further information to be obtained.
The nearest homes were said to be 18.5m away in Margaret Avenue.
