Crime prevention fund re-launched

POLICE and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer is re-launching his Crime Prevention Fund after a successful first year.
In July last year, he put aside £100,000 and invited individuals and groups to apply for funding for projects that would promote community safety and crime prevention.
At the end of the financial year, the fund had received 73 applications of which 31 were approved, with the Commissioner’s investment totalling £98,350.
Mr Dwyer (pictured) said: “We had an array of projects submitted by a variety of organisations, from across the county. It was refreshing to see the community spirit being demonstrated, and by working together all of us can help in the fight against crime and to reduce re-offending. Each of the applications had their own merit, and I had to make some difficult decisions when it came to approving or rejecting the bids.
“I ask applicants to obtain match funding and, I was thrilled that I almost tripled my initial £100,000 investment. The total investment in all 31 projects was a staggering £279,019.
“I want to wish the projects that have received funding the best of luck, I look forward to seeing the difference you make in your community.”
Now Mr Dwyer is putting another £100,000 aside, enabling more people to get involved and help their community.

Among the projects awarded funding last year were Warrington’s Shannon Bradshaw Trust – a charity which helps children with life-threatening conditions.
