The blaze was in the kitchen of a house in Duxford Court, Padgate shortly after midnight. Three fire engines were called to the scene – two from Warrington and one from Stockton Heath.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the flames using hosereel jets and a ventilation unit was used to clear smoke from the premises.
The man was inside the property but was rescued by crews and taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. He is not believed to have been seriously effected.
Smoke alarms inside the premises were activated and as a result neighbours were alerted and dialled 999.
