Parents asked to help on special needs

PARENTS in Warrington are being invited to guide improvements in services and support across education, health and social care for the borough’s 5,000 children with special educational needs and disabilities.
The borough council and its health partners are organising two big consultation events to give parents and carers a chance to have a say on how services are currently run and what they think could be done better in the future.
September will see the launch of the “Local Offer” – bringing together
information into one place to make it easier to find out what is available for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities across Warrington and beyond.
Kath O’Dwyer, the council’s director of families and wellbeing, said: “The Local Offer will link together everything that the council and its partners provide for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
“For example, nurseries, schools and colleges will set out how they can support children with additional needs to do their best and GPs, health clinics and hospitals will explain what services are available and how they can be accessed.
“We’re proud of the services we provide, but our ambition is to get even better and make those services the best that they can possibly be. To do that we need to work with parents, carers, children and young people at every step of the way as we change services to better meet their needs.
“These consultation events give parents and carers a chance to say what services they would like to see included as part of the Local Offer and how these services can be improved. So come along, tell us what you think and help us to serve you and your children better.”
The events will be taking place at The Gateway, Sankey Street, on Monday April 28 from 6pm to 8pm and on Wednesday April 30 from 9.30am to -12.30pm. Anyone who would like to attend is asked to contact the SEND Programme Team at Warrington Borough Council on 01925 443595 or email [email protected]
A future event to consult with children and young people is planned in partnership with the Warrington Wolves’ Foundation.
