Joey's live below the line challenge

INSPIRED by a trip to Colombia, Joey Knock, a North West Christian Aid intern based in Warrington, is going to “Live Below the Line” – a five-day challenge to experience the hunger and homelessness millions around the world have to live through.
From Monday to Friday next week, Joey will be eating off £1 a day – the UK equivalent of the global extreme poverty line.
He will be sleeping on a church hall floor and, to make it even harder, he will be undertaking surprise daily challenges to further simulate global poverty.
Joey said: “In September I travelled to Colombia, which is the focus for Christian Aid Week (May 11-17) this year. We met communities who’ve been forced from their rainforest homes because of ongoing conflict. “Internally displaced people came to Turbo, seeking refuge where they could. I visited a sports hall where thousands of people sleep as
they have nowhere else to go. This opened my eyes to how some people have to live.”
Around five million people have been displaced from their homes in Colombia because of the country’s prolonged Civil War.
Joey also met Christian Aid’s partner, CIJP, who are providing communities with a safe place to live, back in the rainforest.
“I struggled to understand how someone could call a sports hall home, let alone thousands in the same desperate and distressing situation.
“That’s why this month I’m going to ‘Live Below The Line’, to raise vital funds to support Christian Aid’s work to end poverty in Colombia and across the world.”
Joey is hoping to raise £500 through the challenge. He’ll also be blogging everyday about the challenge, to deepen his understanding and share the reality of poverty with others.
